Alan Turing changed history by just asking one question” Can machines think?”.Turing published a paper“Computing Machinery and Intelligence(1950)” that envisioned AI. Artificial Intelligence is simply the ability of a machine to think and make decisions like humans. We can see its emerging application everywhere from Google search engines to self-driving cars. As every man-made thing in the world has pros and cons so AI has also some advantages and disadvantages.


Advantages of Artificial Intelligence

we can see that AI is overtaking our Future in our offices, homes, factories, banking, and almost everywhere. If we list its advantages there is a never-ending list but some of the major boons of AI are mentioned here


1. Reduction in error

Humans are not perfect they make mistakes all the time but machines do not. The machine just follows the instruction and perform the task with no error unless there is some mistake in its development. With Artificial Intelligence the machine take decisions based on the data collected previously. And greatly reduce the error.

2. Time-Saving

The one job that man takes an hour to do, with the help of AI may be just a few clicks away. for instance, if you need to count the number of sheep you don't need to count one by one but with the help of AI, you can do it.

3. Work more than humans

A human can only do 7-8 hours of average work in the day if he does more it would be dangerous for his health and he may need to take bed rest for a week. But robots can do much more than humans. They don’t need breaks and holidays. They provide 24x7 services.

4. Can take a decision

One of the specialties of AI is that it makes good decisions based on the gathered data. A human overthinks on a certain matter if he needs to do this or not. for example, if you are playing chess on the computer you may find it difficult to win from the CPU in a harder mood. But it is easy for you to win from your friend.

5. Doesn't have human characteristics

Humans are different from machines. They get bored just doing one task again and again. they need holidays, breaks, and refreshments to continue to do work. They have their personal and family life. But with the help of AI, we can get rid of these repetitive jobs. for example, an AI-powered chatbot provides service to the customer all day.

6. Makes more Technical jobs

You may be heard that AI will take your job in the future it may be true to some extinct. But according to the report of the world economic forum, AI will create 97 million jobs by 2050. for example AI drones take the courier service but you need more technical engineers to build drones.



Disadvantages of Artificial Intelligence

As technology is two edge-sword and it can cut both ways. where it has advantages there are also some disadvantages. AI itself doesn’t have any demerits, its merit begins with how we use it for what solutions and for which purposes.


1. Expensive

Developing AI-powered Robots, Machine and tools could be expensive because it needs professionals to develop and costly resources are needed. As AI never reached to its peak so every day new updates are coming which would be expensive to impliment.

2. Not as intelligent as humans

No matter, how AI is intelligent it is not more intelligent than humans. Robots can only perform the task for which they are programmed they can’t be creative, they don’t have divergent thinking. For example, the article post written by an AI-powered tool contained only data and facts which lacks creativity.

3. Lack of empathy

Machines don’t have feelings they only follow instructions. They only do the task for which they are programmed. There is no doubt that machines work more effectively the human. But when it comes to team management AI totally fails. They don’t have the emotions to build up a team which is necessary for achieving goals.

4. Takes a lot of jobs

As I mentioned above AI makes jobs but we will not ignore the fact that AI also take over jobs in the future. According to the report of the World Economic Forum AI will replace 85 million jobs by 2025. for example, robots replacing workers in factories in developed countries like Japan and China.

5. Misuse

If AI goes into the wrong hand maybe it is used for some unethical purpose and it may harm humanity. A recent study found emerging threats and trends in global security with regard to AI. It may be used as a military asset and cause destruction.
